Ever find yourself lost in thoughts? As though you’re in a completely different world and things are so different in that world than the one you are actually living. I have pretty much summed up 10months of my life to you in just one sentence. I’m not joking either.
One thing I never anticipated when having a child is that no matter how much of a patient person you are, it’s never enough patience to get you through. Children are very demanding beings, they require a lot of time and attention, sometimes as a parent we find ourselves giving so much of ourselves to our children that we lose sight of ourselves in the midst of it all.
I have had my fair share of emotional ups and downs I can tell you that, all the sleepless nights, constantly being covered in vomit because Little K has reflux, which has resulted in me giving up on dressing up at all and constantly sticking to comfortable clothes that I can hide my face in when life gets me down. Let’s not skip out on dealing with the cold, which seems to be a thing now in our house, it’s like a never ending cycle, one of us will catch the cold and then it will pass around to all of us, and then start all over again. But going back to my rant about patience…
We deal with so much, all day of everyday, relationships, bills, work, illnesses, and so much more, but have we ever stopped to think about ourselves in the midst? You don’t realise it, but to cope with so much “weight from the world” shows that we have a lot more patience than we think we do. Yes we have strops sometimes as adults, of course we murmur under our breath when we dislike something, and roll our eyes when the person opposite is being sarcastic. It’s all part of the process of growing, as human beings we are capable of so much, we are a being that is constantly evolving and pushing ourselves to heights we thought we could never achieve, let alone dream of.
Life has a funny way of showing us what we are capable of, sometimes when times get tough, I find myself running to this other world just to escape for a moment. I have found that taking a moment out to step away from everything going on around me helps me to relax and come back to reality a little refreshed. We all have our fair share of tough days as parents, and beings, sometimes a little Me time is important. I am starting to realise the importance of Me Time and how it plays a role in my parenting, i dedicate a big chunk of my life to Little K and my loved ones, therefore I deserve a little time for myself. Let’s not forget our health isn’t just about the food we eat and the exercise we do, it’s also about making time for ourselves in order to regain control of our mind, body and soul.
Here is to the New Year,
I hope you have enjoyed reading this post, maybe you can share how you take time out for yourself when you feel run down.
